Classic Tours – Wigton Motor Club
During the year we run a number of classic touring events. These can range from the 40 mile “Pub Runs” which take place usually on a Wednesday evening in the summer, to the longer two day events which head out of our area. These will vary from about 120 to 140 miles per day, punctuated by rest and refreshment halts at places of interest.
The route is given out by “Tulip” (ball and arrow) diagrams with distances given to the nearest tenth of a mile. This is very simple, but help is always at hand if you need it.
The main tours this year:
May 6th 2026 - John Peel Meander:
The event welcomes anyone in cars from the pre World War Two era although similar cars up to the early 1950s will be most acceptable.
The Meander will be approximately 45 miles long and will be run at a very sedate pace with simple route instructions and no formal timing. It is simply an opportunity to exercise your cars on quiet, non challenging Cumbrian roads in the company of fellow enthusiasts. We will start at the Motor House at Moota on the A595 and finish at Base Camp, Cocklakes on the A66 one mile east of Troutbeck.
June 14th 2026 - The Gallop Tour
The Gallop heads south from Base Camp North to the Lakeland Motor Museum and then back to Penrith on some great driving roads.
August 22nd 2026 - Rose & Thistle Tour
The 37th running of our principal tour. Heading briefly into Scotland and then into scenic roads of Northumberland and back into Cumbria. Entries limited to 70 cars this year so don’t delay and guarantee your place.
September 27th 2026 - Cumbria Canter
The Cumbrian Canter will start from Basecamp North West, Cocklakes House, Troutbeck which is located off the A66 west of Penrith (Map 90 Ref 275407) and is open to members of Wigton Motor Club and all other enthusiasts driving historic, classic and other fine and sporting cars of any age. A list of starters and start times will be sent out with final instructions during the week prior.
